Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the relaibility of Life Insurance
Metropolitan Company (LIMC) height weight table to those of standard formulae
estimating ideal weight for athletic and non - athletic females. The method of study
is descriptive and reference standard method is Body Composition Assessment
(BCA) by caliper skinfold. The group under study includes:
1) Seventy - Four Female athletes Playing for national teams who Participated
in the second round of Islamic countries Female competition (age 22 ::t 4).
2) One hundred non - athletic females among students from the University of
Oilan (age 21 ::t3).
Sampling was carry out in three ways:
LIMC height - weight table (1983) ; standard formula and on the basis of fat
percent measured from caliper skinfold method. To determine the type of body using
the method given by LIMC participants were classified as three types (small, average, and large size). The amount of fat was calculated on the basis of Body Mass Index (BMI) by dividing body weight (kg) by height (cm2). Afterward, body wCiS








measured in different dimensions and ultimately the data were analyzed by Piersson's
correlation coefficient, by comparison of BCA results such as referenced scale.
Results of this study are:
1- LIMC and standard formula regarding ideal weight estimation have
significant relationship with the BCA method within two groups of female and non ¬
female athletes.
2- The results obtained from (BMI) have a siginificant relationship with the
BCA method in the two groups.
3- The relationship between BCA method with those of LIMC standard
formula is higher among female athletic groups And among non - athletic females
the relation between BCA method with that of (BMI) is higher.
4- The degree of relationship between LIMC with (BCA) method is less in
swimming and volleyball than any other sports.
LIMC, standard formulas and (BMI) are farily proper measures to estimate
ideal weight in our subjects
