60 male students of Azad Islamic university of Borojerd were chosen randomly from 500 students taking general physical Education class in winter term 1999. They
were divided to 3 groups of 20 students. The: Question was "Does 18 session of mental & physical practice of the Basketball free throw improve this skill or not? All
groups participated the pretest, then group one had no activity, group two practiced the Basketball free throw skill physically for 18 session each session 15 minutes three
time a week. Group three practiced the skill for 18 session too, but each session included 7.5 minutes mental then 7.5 minutes phisycal practice of the skill. The
Instruments were the "Hickmans method of mental training" for mental practice, & the AAHPERD" standarded test for Basketball free throw testes. Analysis of
variance of the means of the 3 groups showed that although the group that had physical practice only progressed in comparison to in active group. But the mentally
& physically practiced group had significantly greater progress even compared to the physically practiced group.
