Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to explore the relationship between competitive professional 50m swimming time and some anthropometric characteristics in elite female Iranian swimmers to determine the effects of anthropometric features on their competitive result. For this purpose, the age, weight, height, nine body lengths five breadths, seven circumferences and three skin folds of 13 female swimmers were measured. Body composition and other indices like the gluteal circumference related to height (GC/H) and body surface area (BS) were also assessed on the basis of these data (P<0.05). Such significant correlations show the importance of considering such indice while choosing the sport talents at early age. The analysis of measurements and the best time obtained showed that there was a meaningful correlation between calf circumference, age, chest circumference, lean body weight, weight , shoulder circumference, body surface, palm length and 50 m professional swimming time.
